E36 rear top mount fix

BMW E36 rear top mount cheaty fix guide.

Here is how I cheated my knackered top mounts, with thanks to Jeek for the idea.

E36s come as standard with fucked rear top mounts, the ones on mine were knackered when I bought it so I put an old set from my M3 on there to make do, but those are knackered as well now so I thought I'd try this :-D

They normally look like this (apologies for the poor image - new ones on back-order :-D ) :

But... if you get a big fuck off washer and cram it on the strut before putting the top mount on like so:

And invert the top concave washer so it pressing against the the metal casing of the top mount like so:

Bingo! You have what is essentially a solid top mount. If you use a fat enough washers these should last a lot longer than the rubber ones.

What I didn't mention is you have have to get a bit creative with a craft knife to cut down a couple of the rubber nodules on the mounts before the washers will sit flat against the steel mount - and therefore not make any knocking noises.
